Expo 2009

July 20th, 2009 – Expo 2009

On Saturday, July 18th Paulo (my nephew) and I went to the Expo in Asunción. The Expo is an annual event held in Asunción, in which merchants from all over Paraguay come and showcase their products. It’s fair-like in the sense that there are food vendors all over, fair rides and games, and an animal showcase and competitions. It’s different from a fair in the sense that all the major car and motorcycle manufacturers that sell in Paraguay maintain a prominent presence at the event. In addition, artisans from all over the country come to showcase and sell their unique products. There are even vendors such that promote things like luxury glass, hot-tubs, furniture, etc... Most of the major telecommunications companies also had a presence.

There were people giving tattoos, groups performing traditional dances, and booths promoting social causes. I saw several cooperatives and even Sony was there. It was actually very big and pretty impressive. I mean this is the sort of thing Paraguay needs more often. It’s a shame there is only one, one time a year.

Anyway, Paulo and I walked around checking everything out. We took stupid photos, gawked at the promotional girls, served ourselves up to some tasty treats, and pretended we were rich by acting like we could actually afford to buy such items as a brand new Benz, motorcycle, and Sony big screen.

Here are some pictures...
